Supporting Officer Latoya Guidry: A Journey of Healing and Hope

Officer Latoya Guidry

Officer Latoya Guidry, a dedicated member of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, recently underwent brain surgery for Moyamoya disease in California on April 4, 2024. Despite her optimistic and cheerful demeanor, Latoya has described her post-surgery recovery as challenging.

Moyamoya disease is a rare, progressive cerebrovascular disorder characterized by the narrowing or blockage of the arteries at the base of the brain. Living with Moyamoya disease requires ongoing medical care and monitoring, as well as managing symptoms and reducing stroke risk through lifestyle changes and medication.

This fall marks Latoya’s 18th year with the LVMPD, including 8 years in dispatch and 10 years as a commissioned officer. She is currently serving as an officer at the airport. Latoya is a single mother of two sons: an 18-year-old who is working and hopes to attend IT school once Latoya is back on her feet, and an 11-year-old who will be starting middle school in the fall.

The LVMPD is working to adjust her FMLA approval to cover her recovery period, but Latoya remains concerned about the financial burden of her medical expenses. She previously relied on overtime to support her family, but she is now unable to work extra hours and is facing mounting medical bills. Additionally, the uncertainty about when she can return to full duty adds to her concerns.

This fundraiser aims to support Officer Guidry during this difficult time, helping to cover her medical expenses and provide financial stability as she focuses on her recovery. Your generosity can significantly ease the burden on Latoya and her family, allowing her to heal and return to her duties with peace of mind.
