Heart of a Warrior: Rallying Support for Baby Dakota’s Critical Heart Surgery

Dakota Ketring

In the face of overwhelming challenges, Southcentral Officer Dustin Ketring’s son, Dakota Ketring, a brave little fighter born prematurely at just 1 pound, 13 ounces on June 22, 2023, has already shown the world his incredible strength. Scheduled to arrive on September 10, Dakota made an early entry into the world, leading to an immediate admission into the NICU, where he spent the first 80 days of his life. Discharged on his original due date, Dakota continues to battle health complications, requiring home oxygen support.

Recent medical evaluations have further complicated his journey. During a routine cardiac follow-up, it was discovered that Dakota needed immediate intervention to patch a hole in his heart. However, upon beginning the procedure, doctors found an additional hole, necessitating urgent open-heart surgery. He underwent surgery on April 18th to not only mend his heart but also significantly improve his lung function and potentially eliminate the need for oxygen support at home.

Behind the Blue is rallying support for Dakota and his family as they face mounting medical expenses and ongoing care costs. The funds raised through this campaign will directly assist with medical bills and essential follow-up treatments. Dakota Ketring
