Behind the Blue Stories & Quotes

Behind the Blue is an amazing organization of like-minded individuals who truly have genuine heart, compassion, and drive. Their team is continually meeting the vast needs of officers and their families when our heroes become the ones in need. Behind the Blue is always there to support, bolster, enrich, improve, and even stand with our officers during situations that can easily be categorized as some of the most difficult times in their lives. It is a blessing to see this team in action, and I am grateful there are community members who support not only our department but all of our Southern Nevada Law Enforcement officers.  

As a sponsor and real estate that only works with local Heroes (Nurses, teachers, Firefighters, and primarily members of Law Enforcement) I was very fortunate to meet Renee Sorensen, one of the founders of Behind the Blue. In collaboration with Behind the Blue, I have been part of raising tens of thousands of dollars for the families of four Henderson Police Department Police Officers.  

This was only possible through Behind the Blue.  

There are other organizations that will fundraise for police officers, but they have limiting restrictions that do not benefit most officers, in my opinion. In contrast, Behind the Blue will raise unlimited funds, that are provided to benefit either the officer or a family member. There is also no required way to spend, or not to spend, any of the money collected.  

Behind the Blue fills the gaps in financially helping officers in need, that other organizations cannot. 

I deeply respect what Behind the Blue does, and appreciate the lengths they go to in supporting our local law enforcement heroes.

Behind the Blue represents a remarkable group of volunteers who often take the initiative to help our police officers and their families in a variety of ways. Not only have they proven instrumental in hosting fundraisers with LVMPD but they also boost morale and improve officer wellness by routinely providing food, supplies, and financial support to our officers during catastrophic situations. Ultimately, when our officers suffer – regardless of the scope or reason – they take action and produce results that truly breathe life into the situation.  

Everyone needs a helping hand, especially when times are tough. As a leader, some of the toughest times are when someone you lead falls seriously ill. In the past year or so, two officers who currently work for our section fell ill with very serious forms of cancer. Times like these are undoubtedly tough as you want to provide great assistance but don’t always have the roadmap to succeed. Behind the Blue provided exactly that, and helped lead two efforts to help our officers who were greatly in need. The hard-working, knowledgeable, caring, and professional folks at Behind the Blue were that saving grace for us during these tough times and continue to be that same presence for others. From start to finish, the Behind the Blue team provided endless amounts of prompt support when that time or knowledge wasn’t always available.

We were recently able to hold one of the agency’s most successful fundraisers for one of our sick officers because of the guidance and knowledge of their wonderful team. There was never a question or phone call left unanswered, or assist left unattended to. Thanks to their team, we were able to provide the necessary support needed for the officer and their family as they traversed through treacherous terrain caused by their loved one’s illness.

You cannot put a price on those who show selflessness and love for those who serve our community by putting their own lives on the line regularly. Behind the Blue epitomizes the caring touch needed by our men and women of LVMPD when they navigate the most challenging of times. I’m eternally grateful for what they’ve done for our officers and beyond, as their dedication to supporting our workforce never ceases. Thank you Behind the Blue! 

Behind the Blue has been instrumental in supporting the needs of law enforcement and their families. Whenever there is a member of our department who needs support, Behind the Blue has always been willing to step in. In addition, they offer their support and resources to assist in building our officer wellness programs. Whether it’s training, fundraising, or creating programs to support law enforcement, Behind the Blue is always the first call and shows up every time. 

I am forever grateful for Behind the Blue and what they did to help my family out during a very tough time. This organization stepped in and raised money which helped my family with medical bills that were never ending. Because of the efforts of Behind the Blue, I was able to focus on my family through a very difficult time.  

Behind the Blue came into the lives of my family at the most tragic times anyone could possibly imagine – the loss of our son Michael.  

The devastation of being notified of your child’s death is at first an incredible lightning strike of shock and pain. This is soon replaced by numbness, confusion, and the inability to make any sense of reality, let alone make decisions that you never thought you would have to deal with; namely, how to honor your child and bring everyone who loved him together in a celebration of life. It just doesn’t compute on any level. 

This is where the wonderful folks at Behind the Blue came in. They reached out soon thereafter and were my number one go-to, as far as being able to plan our son’s celebration of life, taking the majority of the load off of us, and handling it themselves. Their incredible willingness to help us and their overwhelming sympathy and support were very important in our ability to carry on through the days and weeks that followed. 

These wonderful people took over handling all of the arrangements for the celebration of life, and in doing so helped our family tremendously. Their time energy and efforts were nothing short of amazing. 

The volunteers of Behind the Blue are true angels in the eyes of our family, and their kindness will not be forgotten.
