About LVMPD SWAT

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Bureau is a full-time unit dedicated to managing high-risk operations throughout the community. Their primary mission is to respond to and peacefully resolve critical incidents without loss of life. In partnership with the Crisis Negotiation Team, SWAT focuses on securing the voluntary surrender of individuals and executing high-risk search warrant services in support of the department’s initiatives.

LVMPD SWAT is one of the few full-time teams in the country. Each year, they respond to numerous hostage situations and carry out approximately 365 high-risk search or arrest warrants. The team is also trained in the use of less-lethal weapons and provides tactical training to other officers across the department.

Beyond tactical operations, the SWAT team emphasizes the sanctity of human life. They are equipped to gather critical intelligence and buy valuable time to support informed decision-making and effective planning. The department maintains a strong commitment to respecting the dignity and rights of all individuals, with a focus on minimizing the use of force.

Through their skill, discipline, and dedication, the LVMPD SWAT Bureau plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of Las Vegas and its residents.
