About LVMPD SWAT

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Bureau is a full-time unit dedicated to managing high-risk operations within the community. Their primary mission is to respond to and peacefully resolve critical incidents and high-risk situations without loss of life. In collaboration with the Crisis Negotiation Team, SWAT focuses on securing the voluntary surrender of individuals and executing high-risk search warrant services in support of the department’s initiatives.

The LVMPD SWAT team is one of the few in the United States that operates full-time. Annually, they respond to an average of 55 hostage situations and execute approximately 365 high-risk search or arrest warrants. The team is also proficient in the use of less-lethal weapons and provides training to regular police officers.

Beyond their tactical duties, the SWAT team prioritizes the sanctity of human life. They are equipped to gather vital intelligence and buy critical time, facilitating improved decision-making and tactical planning. The department maintains the highest respect for the dignity and freedom of all individuals, relying minimally on the use of force.

The LVMPD SWAT Bureau ensures the safety and security of Las Vegas and its residents through its unwavering commitment to excellence.
